BASIC CARBINE

This is a 6-hour basic course that includes classroom discussion, range time and a meal!

In this class, students will learn firearm safety, the responsibilities of a firearm owner and the fundamentals of shooting. These students will also learn how carbines operate so that they will be educated enough to help them find which carbine is most suitable for their needs. There will also be a basic overview of ammunition, the internal functions of the carbine and ammunition selection. They will also be given an understanding of common malfunctions and taught the skills to help them work through the different malfunctions with their carbine.

Discussion on accessory recommendations for the carbine will be reviewed to ensure the student has the right setup for their defensive needs.

Required Course Materials

  • Carbine platform rifle or pistol (loaners available)
    • Rifle and Pistol caliber carbines are acceptable, up to .223/5.56mm
  • 100 rounds of ammunition
    • NO steel core or AP ammo allowed
  • Minimum of 2 magazines
  • Hearing and eye protection
  • Minimum of 5 dummy rounds
  • Wear comfortable clothing, closed-toed shoes & no low-cut shirts
  • Bring note taking material

 

Instructor

Jeff Cain

Jeff has many years of public service experience having served in the US Air Force, Texas State Guard Medical Brigade, Shelby County (TN) Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, and local agencies. He has served as a Police Officer, Tactical Medic, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Search and Rescue (SAR) team member, armed/unarmed security officer and has worked with protection & SAR canines.

Jeff is a certified instructor for multiple firearm disciplines. He is NRA certified to teach Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Personal Protection in The Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, and Basic CCW. Jeff is also a Chief Range Safety Officer.

Jeff is a certified instructor for multiple medical related courses through the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) and The American College of Surgeons.

He constantly takes new courses to reinforce existing skills and to add new skills to his repertoire and teaching curriculum.

Jeff’s teaching philosophy revolves around teaching simple, memorable and repeatable skills that can be easily recalled and applied during stressful situations. Your safety and survival are his number one priority.
