Course Overview
This course was developed to improve the scores of shooters in indoor matches. However, other shooters are welcome to attend to improve their overall shooting. The course focuses on getting back to basics and reinforcing best practices in shooting fundamentals. Different match shooting strategies are also reviewed to help competitors increase their scores in a timed shooting event.
Course Materials
A semi-automatic pistol, 3-6 magazines, 180 to 200 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection, and proper clothing and footwear for range use.
Prerequisites
The basic/fundamentals class is recommended but not required as long as you are able to safely handle your firearm.
Course Format
Students are required to watch a safety video and sign release waivers prior to the start of class.
- The instructor will take the students into the 25-yard range, and each student will shoot an indoor match course of fire. This will give a baseline for the student and allow the instructor to identify areas for improvement for each student. The student may have magazines loaded with 10 rounds each in preparation for the course of fire. If a “pocket” handgun is used, the magazines will need to be loaded with five rounds each. The firearm should not be loaded until directed to do so by the instructor. After shooting, all firearms will be unloaded, checked by the instructor and chamber flagged before going back to the classroom.
- Following the “pre-test” the students will go to the classroom for a PowerPoint presentation, lecture and dry drills.
- Students will then return to the 25-yard range for live-fire drills. Targets will be provided.
- The students will shoot the same indoor match course of fire to evaluate improvement.
