One of the most common shortcuts in the industry is the use of 60 series aluminum components in critical areas like buffer tubes and charging handles. These parts are often inexpensive imports, originally intended for paintball or airsoft applications, not for the stresses of a real firearm. While they may look the part, they do not perform under real use.
A 6061 buffer tube is far more susceptible to bending and denting under impact or hard use. Once compromised, it can lead to functional issues, inconsistent cycling, and a shorter service life. The same applies to charging handles made from 60 series aluminum. Under repeated upward force during charging, they can flex and begin to warp. Over time, that leads to unreliable operation and premature wear.
